Beauty and Ugliness in Architecture is an annual symposium held in Oslo,Norway to promote beauty and fight ugliness in architecture.
History of architecture has been preoccupied with beauty; in Europe and on all continents and in all cultures.
These are living traditions that have evolved over thousands of years, and can continue to evolve in thousands of years, if we fully engage with them.
Modernist architecture is a violation of these traditions, of the fundamental principles of beauty in architecture, and universal, human preferences in architecture across times and cultures.
We fight against the Modernist storytelling of architectural traditions as being something that does not belong in our times, something that belongs in a museum.
We fight for a different storytelling where architectural traditions are to be engaged with fully, without irony or distance; a tool to connect our own time with the past and the future of our society.
