Nir Buras for a short visit to Norway in January - meeting BUA-organizers

Nir Haim buras visited Oslo the weekend Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st to make an interview with Carl Korsnes for the Cave of Apelles.

Nir was staying at the Grand Hotel in Oslo for the entire Norway trip, and BUA-organizers approached him to meet up. At that moment Oslo was freezing cold, approaching -17 Celsius. Anders was a bit worried about the cold, and bought some high quality super-underwear to Nir, and went down to eat dinner with Nir a quick breakfast at 0845 Saturday morning, at the Grand Hotel restaurant.

They was an interesting talk, where the two planned coordinated a bit for the future collaborations on the revival of classic urbanism. The day after, Tor O. Austigard had agreed to take Nir and visit the Folkmuseum, and Tor picked up Nir in the hotel lobby. Fortunately Tor had asked Kristian Hoff-Andersen to join for the excursion, and the three of them went to Bygdø for a nice an exciting tour, where Kristian acted as a guide.

BUA-organizing comittee grows, by including Frederik Nygård Stokvik

The toll of work on the organizers has grown significantly over Christmas so the BUA team wanted to increase its organizing-committee. Stokvik had earlier proved to be very productive member of the Norwegian architecture uprising community .

Stokvik is an all-rounder for BUA-organizers, booking tickets, handling web page, producing content, managing Confluence (our internal BUA-wiki). We are so happy to have him onboard the BUA-team!

Frederik Nygård Stokvik.

Long experience from project management and technical support in the IT-industry, with a passion and dedication for beautifying our built environment.

FrittOrd funding for BUA and first private sponsor Soli Eplegård

We are happy to annonunce that we got funding from Fritt Ord for organizing the Conference 2024. In addition we got our first private sponsor to the conference too, soli Eplegård. The conference is very dependent on funding - in order to hire locations, assure that the conference is properly recorded and then later published on YouTube, as well as providing economical support for the invited speakers. Funding for the conference might be difficult - since the topics of the conference is a bit conflicting with the current aesthetic regime. The organizers would like to send their greatest thanks to our first two sponsors!

BUA 2024 still welcomes both private and public sponsors, if you would like to get onboard Beauty and Ugliness in Architecture 2024, just send and email to hello@beauty-and-ugliness.com.

BUA partnering with CPI!

We are happy to announce that Beauty and Ugliness will partner with The Classic Planning Institute (CPI) spring 2024! In practice this means that we extend our collaboration - both on events and on the educational matter. We already have a close collaboration with Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). This will give fantastic new opportunity for BUA to learn from the brilliant staff at CPI. Nir Haim Buras - the core kernal of the creation of the Institute, will come to Oslo and talk about is encyclopedic book “The Art of Classic Architecture”.

BUA focuses on learning from the past - both in our search for a building-architecture well-rooted in the past traditions, but equally important is to learn how to design or repair our cities, using deep and often forgotten knowledge from out past. This is exactly where CPI comes with their helping hand - with their extensive knowledge and respect for traditional urban design.
