“When this year's Beauty and Ugliness in Architecture conference kicks off, the goal is to be a beacon of hope for the revival of classical architecture in Norway”
Beautiful and Ugly architecture is on the wallpaper when the two-day conference Beauty and Ugliness in Architecture 2024 (BUA) this weekend is held at Håndverkeren in Oslo. With an Ionic column as its logo, there is no doubt that BUA's view of architecture is tradition-conscious.
“We thank the Norwegian Architecture Rebellion, for the awareness of the need for more traditional architecture in our society today," says Frederik Nygård Stokvik. He is one of the organizers behind BUA, and also chairman of Ny Urbanisme Norge (New Urbanism Norway)

“We must learn to build beautiful again”

- The opposition towards ugly architecture was good, but it needed some support from something more solid academically. We will all learn more about architecture and urban development. The goal is learning! according to Mr.Anders Hagalisletto.
When the architecture symposium "Beauty and Ugliness" kicked off last year, it ended in a heated blunt feud between initiator Anders Moen Hagalisletto and professor of architecture and urbanism at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO), Karl Otto Ellefsen.
